Can't compare low-range turbidity sensor data? The 4-step troubleshooting guide is here!

When low-range turbidity sensors are operated on-site, they occasionally encounter inconsistent data comparisons. Many friends panic when encountering this problem. Is the sensor broken? In fact, there is no need to worry, most cases are not hardware failures! Today I will share with you a very practical 4-step troubleshooting method to help you quickly solve data comparison problems~

Step 1 Check whether the sensor and flow cell are contaminated

Sensor window and flow cell contamination are common causes of inaccurate data. The operation steps are very simple: first turn off the water inlet of the instrument and cut off the power, take out the sensor from the flow cell, gently wipe the sensor light window with a clean paper towel; at the same time, use a sponge brush to clean the inside of the flow cell. If it is a grid defoaming flow cell (such as YG-TR/KD model), remember to take out the built-in defoaming grid and rinse it with clean water. After cleaning, reinstall the sensor into the flow cell, turn on the water and power on, wait a few minutes, and observe whether the values return to normal.

If the data cannot be compared due to contamination of the sensor and flow cell, this step will most likely solve the problem.

Step 2 Troubleshoot bubble interference issues

Low-range turbidity sensors are particularly sensitive to air bubbles, which is one of the key factors causing inaccurate measurements. Micro-nano bubbles that are invisible to the naked eye in on-site water samples may lead to measurement deviations. Let me teach you a quick judgment method: turn off the water supply to the meter, let the water sample in the flow cell stand for a few to ten minutes, and observe whether there is any obvious change in the value. If the value fluctuates greatly, it indicates that there is bubble interference. Sensors with different defoaming principles (such as YG-TR/KD models and YG-TP/P1 models) have different processing methods. For specific operations, please refer to the corresponding model technical manual or historical published articles.

Step 3 Restore factory settings

Sometimes the data is inaccurate, which may be caused by previous miscalibration without cleaning and exhausting the air bubbles. Don’t panic at this time. Restoring the sensor to factory settings through instrument operation can clear the wrong calibration parameters and return the sensor to its initial state. In many cases, the problem can be solved directly.

Step 4 Recalibrate the sensor

Turbidimeters of different brands and models may have numerical deviations when measuring the same water sample due to differences in light source type, optical path design, calibration cycle, and service life. In this case, it is necessary to perform on-site water sample comparison calibration on the sensor based on the values of the comparison equipment.
