Project background and industry needs
According to data from the official website of the State Sports General Administration, the total number of swimming venues in my country has exceeded 39,700, and the annual number of visitors has exceeded 500 million, showing a continuous growth trend. Swimming has become a popular national fitness sport. However, water quality and safety issues have become increasingly prominent. National health supervision random inspections in 2024 showed that 28% of sites did not meet the control of residual chlorine, leading to frequent health incidents such as pink eye and skin allergies. Swimming pool water directly contacts human mucous membranes and skin, and its water quality has become a core concern for public health and safety.
Swimming pool related standards
· "Swimming Pool Water Quality Standards" (CJ 244-2007)
· "Swimming Pool Water Quality Standards" (CJ 244-2016)
· "Hygiene Indicators and Limit Requirements for Public Places" (GB 37488-2019)
· "Specifications for Artificial Swimming Places" (GB 37489.3-2019)
· Local supervision: Some areas require daily disclosure of pH, residual chlorine, and water temperature data, and the health department conducts monthly random inspections and incorporates them into the smart health supervision platform.
Analysis of swimming pool water quality standards and monitoring parameters
Core water quality parameters and health implications
According to the above national standards, when installing a swimming pool, the required parameters and their mechanisms of action are as follows:
Turbidity is a measure of water clarity and mainly reflects the content of suspended particles in the water. Excessive turbidity not only affects swimmers' vision and reduces swimming experience, but may also become a carrier for the attachment and growth of microorganisms and bacteria, increasing the risk of water pollution.
Residual chlorine is a key indicator of the disinfection effect of swimming pools and is directly related to the sanitary status of swimming pool water. Free residual chlorine has strong oxidizing properties and can quickly kill bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms in the water. It is an important line of defense to ensure pool water hygiene. If the free residual chlorine content is insufficient, microorganisms cannot be effectively killed, which can easily lead to water pollution and cause infectious diseases such as pink eye, skin diseases, and gastrointestinal diseases. If the free residual chlorine content is too high, it will produce a pungent odor and affect the swimmer's experience. Monitor the residual chlorine content to ensure that it is within the appropriate range, which can not only effectively disinfect, but also avoid irritation to swimmers' skin, eyes, and respiratory tract caused by excessive residual chlorine.
If the pH of the swimming pool is too high or too low, it will directly affect the water quality. If the pH is less than 7.0, it means that the water quality is acidic. The disinfectant in the swimming pool decomposes quickly, and the residual chlorine is maintained for a short time, which accelerates the reproduction of microorganisms. It will also cause corrosion or scaling of the swimming pool hardware structure and equipment, affecting the service life; if the pH is too high, it will inhibit the efficacy of chlorine and reduce the disinfection and sterilization effect. The pH value of human body fluids is around 7.4. If it is too high or too low, it will cause discomfort, irritate the skin and eyes, make hair sticky, and affect the comfort of swimmers.
ORP is a comprehensive index that measures the redox capacity of water. It reflects the relative concentration and activity of various oxidizing substances and reducing substances in the water. In swimming pool water quality monitoring, ORP is closely related to the disinfection effect of disinfectants. Taking chlorine-containing disinfectants as an example, a higher ORP value means that the water has strong oxidizing ability and can effectively kill bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms. Generally speaking, when the ORP value of swimming pool water is maintained at 650~750mV, the disinfection effect is ideal.
Water temperature directly affects the comfort and exercise effect of swimmers, and also has a certain impact on the growth and reproduction of microorganisms. Different types of swimming pools have different requirements for water temperature. For example, the water temperature of competition swimming pools is generally controlled at 25~27℃.

Advantages of multi-parameter water quality analyzer
During the disinfection process of swimming pools, trichloroisocyanuric acid, as a commonly used disinfectant, is prone to chlorine lock, that is, a large accumulation of combined residual chlorine, making it difficult for free residual chlorine to exert its disinfection effect and producing a strong irritating odor. Our swimming pool online monitoring equipment is equipped with specialized electrolyte and membrane heads, which can effectively measure free residual chlorine and has good comparison with handheld portable equipment.
The equipment supports optional relay modules, which can achieve intelligent linkage with the swimming pool's dosing equipment to build an automatic dosing system. When parameters such as residual chlorine and pH value deviate from the standard range, the device automatically triggers the relay and controls the dosing pump to add the corresponding chemicals according to the preset program without manual intervention. This automated dosing method not only improves the timeliness and accuracy of dosing, but also reduces manual operation errors and operating costs, while ensuring that water quality is always within the acceptable range.
In order to avoid the risk of a dosing accident caused by the failure of residual chlorine monitoring due to abnormal water outage in the equipment, but still linked dosing, our equipment can be equipped with a water level sensor. The water level sensor monitors swimming pool water level changes in real time. Once an abnormal drop in water level or water outage is detected, a signal will be sent to the monitoring equipment immediately. The equipment will automatically suspend the dosing function and issue an alarm to remind managers to handle it in a timely manner. This function effectively ensures the safety of the swimming pool water treatment process and prevents chemical waste and water pollution caused by misuse.
YuanGan Technology's swimming pool water quality online monitoring equipment relies on advanced technology, complete functions and reliable performance to effectively solve various problems in the swimming pool water quality monitoring and management process, providing strong support for ensuring swimming pool water quality safety and improving operational efficiency.
